Originally published in German in 2011 by the Namibia Scientific Society under the title Die Nama unter Deutscher Kolonialherrschaft (1884-1904).

This study focuses on the different Nama tribes in German South West Africa, investigates developments from the start of German colonial rule in 1884 until the major uprisings that began in 1904, and explores why the Nama were unable to come to an arrangement with the colonial rulers that could have led over time to relatively autonomous development.

Michael Vaupel was born in 1974 in Rhineland. He works as a freelance financial journalist and author and lives in both Germany and Swakopmund, Namibia.
