Ngugi wa Thiong’o was born in 1938, in Limuru, Kenya. His work includes novels, plays, short stories, memoirs and literary criticism. His novels include Weep Not, Child, A Grain of Wheat, Petals of Blood, Devil on the Cross and The Perfect Nine: the epic of Gĩkũyũ and Mũmbi. His plays include The Black Hermit and The trial of Dedan Kimathi (Micere Githae Mugo).
