Active ANC member Colleen Lombard was arrested in August 1987, detained under Section 29 of the Internal Security Act, released on bail in January 1988 and charged with terrorism in what became known as the Rainbow Trial. Eventually, after the unbanning of the ANC and the release of Nelson Mandela, the prosecution withdrew all charges against 11 of the trialists, including Colleen.
