Storyteller and language activist Katrina Esau was born in 1933 in Olifantshoek, Northern Cape. She and her bother are the last two surviving mother-tongue speakers of N|uu. In an attempt to preserve her language she runs a school from her home in Rosedale where she teaches children about the traditions of the N|uu people.
Claudia Snyman, Katrina Esau's oldest grandchild, was born in 1981 in Upington, Northern Cape. She teaches children to read and write in N|uu.
